Flooring (Blog Entry 1) – Jennifer Martinez

For this assignment I researched different types of floors you can apply on the trailer. When we went to Tree House, we got to see how much different types of floor’s cost and which one was better. The types of floor’s we got to see where cork, linoleum, bamboo, wool carpet and recycled wood. The flooring that cost the most was the recycled wood because they get the wood from houses or places that are not used anymore and they gather all the material and blend it together to make new material out of it. The reason why it is so expensive is because there is only limited supply of that same material. The most common and renewable type of flooring. The reason being is because bamboo is a type of plant that can grow back fast but it costs $4.95 per square ft. Even though these are really good types of flooring, we decided on getting Linoleum flooring. It is environmentally friendly and it costs $3.50 per square ft. It is a good price for the amount that they are selling it by.
Linoleum flooring comes in different color’s. It is very durable and it is made out of renewable resources such as solidified linseed oil, pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate this is mostly common on a burlap or canvas backing, but it is also added to this type of material. This material was made by joining and inlaying solid pieces of linoleum. Good linoleum flooring is very flexible and can be used in buildings in which more rigid material. It is also one of the cheapest flooring’s that there is. These are some of the reasons why we chose to use linoleum as the material we are going to using when remodeling the trailer.
