I’ve been working on the Google SketchUp 3-D model of the trailer’s interior. Progress has been slow, because the program was so new and uncomfortable for me to navigate in. But with Matt’s help, I’ve become much more proficient and I’ve made lots of progress. When I’m working on it at home, though, I often find myself needing a dimension critical to completing a part of the model. It’s very frustrating, especially when I’m being particularly productive and on task, or am getting close to being finished with that segment. During school, this isn’t a problem, because the trailer is always available for me to consult when I am missing a measurement. I hope that by the end of the week I have the basic layout completed, and just have to add the important details and new additions. The interior model is especially important, because it will help my team members see the effects of the changes we want and need to make on the design of the trailer. One thing I am really enjoying about Google SketchUp is that it is very easy to make changes, and very easy to undo said changes.
The enormity of this project has been overwhelming, but things are beginning to fall into place as my teammates and I come together to the final product. There is still so much to do, but Matt and Mariah were very helpful last week and I’m not as stressed as I was a few weeks ago. I wish we’d had more time to spend with them; they were so knowledgeable!
