Today is the big day! The Green Glamping Girls are going to present the design proposal to the panel of judges, made up of engineers, teachers, and school administrators. I wouldn’t say nervous to describe how I am feeling right now, I am more excited to finally finish DAP! This whole experience with Project VENTURA has been a lot of hard work but it is all going to pay off tomorrow.
Before I dive into my preparations up until this point, I want to address something that I feel needs clarification. The term “glamping” which is a part of our team name, means glamorous camping. I was inspired to use the term glamping after scrolling through hundreds of pins on pinterest. It has a nice ring to it. When I think camping, I envision tents, campfires, sleeping bags, and total isolation from the outside world. I have been camping like this many times and I am actually going to go camping this coming weekend. For those who want to experience the outdoors while enjoying amenities such as a kitchenette, a comfortable bed, a bathroom, and much more, glamping is just for them.
Practice, practice, practice is the only thing I have done yesterday and this morning. I am working on my oral presentation skills. I have presented in front of my parents, alone in my room, and I called up a friend and delivered my speech. I am really trying to tell the story like it is. I have worked on Project VENTURA long enough that I shouldn’t have to memorize anything. There a few key points I have written down on notecards but otherwise, my presentation varies a little every time. During the presentation, I introduce the Green Glamping Girls, give an overview of the electrical and propane system, explain the green materials with in the systems, as well as give a breakdown of the budget.
As for the presentation board, this item of display has been a group effort. Last weekend, we worked on it for several hours and made final touches throughout this week. On Google drive, my team and I created a document with all of the presentation board elements like the design brief, inspiration, budget, green materials, pictures of the models, design description, and conclusion/results. I am really happy with the way out poster turned out and I especially like how we did our title. In addition to our poster, I have added to the power point and I created a PDF file of the power point so the judges can follow along tomorrow morning. Also, since we have extra fabric samples, I made little bows for our presentation tomorrow.
Through VENTURA, I have learned so much and I have been able to apply my knowledge to the real world and that’s really neat. I can’t wait to show the judges all that I have learned and accomplished through this DAP journey, and most importantly I can’t wait to see how the end product turns out (no matter who wins).
