Hello Fellow Viewers! My name is Maya Nunez and I am the co-founder of Vedastein Custom Design Company, along with my panther in crime Sierra Melomo. The meaning behind our Design Company being called Vedastein, is Veda refers to guidance in the Hindu religion and stein is the last part of the name Einstein who was an amazing scientist that changed our world through his findings. So by putting these two words together the message is that we are clever individuals who are dedicated to guiding our clients in the right direction that will satisfy their design needs. Right now and over the next several months, Vedastein Custom Designs is in the middle of working on project VENTURA, which is where we are creating a teacher common space using a 1977 airstream trailer.  So, just so you know that you’re not listening to a complete stranger, let me tell you a little about myself.

I live in Austin, Texas and have been living in the beautiful city my whole life. Expect for a brief period of time when my family lived in Houston, Texas for one year. I attended Casis Elementary School from 1st grade to 5th grade (5 years), for middle school I apply to Ann Richards and was accepted as a 6th grade student. My main reason for attending Ann Richards was that I wanted an environment where I would be given the opportunity to grow and learn the way I needed to and where I wouldn’t be limited in anyway. In 8th grade we were ask to choose one pathway out of the three provided by ARS which are biomedical, media, and engineering. I chose the engineering pathway because it was the best way for me to convey my ideas and learn how to solve different problems using engineering skills. I am very happy with my decision of choosing the engineering pathway because I have had a great deal of fun, learned a variety of skills that will stay with me forever, and I get the opportunity to work on amazing projects like VENTRUA. I have not decided if I am interested in pursuing engineering as a career, however the field I am most interested in is environment engineering because I find it interesting in thinking of ways to improve the environment so it is preserved for years to come.

This is an example of the stairs Sierra and I had trouble making on Google Sketch. We were eventually able to make them with help from Pam Powell.

We are not that far into this project, however I have interview a couple teachers (who are the clients in this case) and everyone seems super excited about the project. The thing I am most excited for in project VENTRUA is to see the final product once we are done because we will be able to say, “I DID THAT!” I am also excited for the building process and being able to construct our final ideas to put in the trailer. I am excited for the interior decorating part of the project because we are able to be as creative as we want. I am also excited for the eco-friendly part of the project. However, I am worried about the electrical circuit proportion of this project just because it is a very confusing project for me to understand. I am also worried about working on Google Sketch Up. The engineering class has been working on a mini project in Google Sketch Up where we had to design a loft. My partner, Sierra and I struggled to make stairs and railings for the loft and we spent a great amount of time on it. Luckily we received help from Pam Powell who teaches carpenter at ACC and who uses Google Sketch Up on a Daily Basis to construct her designs. She taught us how to use components to be able to make the stairs and railings. I hope that Sierra and I will be able to learn the ways to Google Sketch Up quickly so our design company doesn’t fall behind.

I am very excited for this project because it is a great way to make something new out of something old. After discussing in class about what kinds of things to add to the airstream, I realized there is an endless amount of possibilities. Airstreams are very interesting, in fact after reading a packet on the history on airstreams I learned that airstreams were actually used by the American people to escape paying taxes and that because so many people started staying in airstreams, that a number of laws had to be passed in order to keep to condition of airstream sites healthy to live in. To be able to use an airstream is a great opportunity because we are also able to learn to be creative, because a lot is needed to go into this limited amount of space. I think that airstreams have a very interesting history such as that they have been used as hospitals during War World 2 and they have been used to spread the tradition of camping.

This is what the inside of the vintage travel trailer looks like. Right now it is bare, however it does have nice floral print on the walls which is not seen here.

I hope to learn more about airstreams as I throw myself deeper into this project, because they have been used for so much over time. Also airstreams are durable and are considered one of the best designs ever which are why people still use airstreams today. So some may think that this airstream is a piece of junk, but really this airstream has a lot of potential in it and it is our job to let it live up to its potential.

This is the exciting airstream that Vedastein Company will be remodeling over the next few months. It is a 1977 vintage trailer.

Overall, I am super excited for this project and I hope it goes well. I am hoping that my design team can work together effectively and without conflict. The airstream challenge will be difficult but it is very achievable. So, that’s all for now viewers. Hopefully you enjoyed my rant.
