Welcome back to one of the great Jedi design teams blogs! This is Swofford here, reporting from ARS(Ann Richards School), where all the best ideas are formed. Recently we have been interviewing our clients (The teachers at our school) and asking them what parts of the trailer they would most likely use, what would make them want to enjoy the great features of the trailer more, etc. While we have been doing this, we have also been working on our sketching skills. One of the skills you have to have to complete these tasks greatly is drawing, a talent that I was sadly not born with. What a shame. I actually quite like drawing, but the outcome is not very pretty. One of my teams goals on this project is to improve our drawing/sketching skills. It will not only help us with this Ventura project, but it will greatly help us in future projects/challenges.
One thing that I have noticed is that no matter how good the quality is, as long as you and the person you are explaining to can get the idea of what you are doing through your drawings/sketches, it will be all right. Being able to sketch/draw your project is a very important part of designing. You want to know every part of the trailer (or whatever object you are working on), so that you are able to come up with the most efficient and creative ideas that you can.
Sooo, while we are on the topic of the most creative ideas, I have found a very creative remodeling of a different airstream. This Airstream trailer has a wonderful wood flooring, with great storage and I especially love the wallpaper that covers the wall and part of the ceiling. I love the idea of have wood flooring. It looks professional, but doesn’t take attention away from the rest of the trailer. I also really enjoy the colors and pattern of the wallpaper. They colors, pattern and the way it is placed, curving onto the ceiling makes the entire trailer seem more open and spacious. I love it! I will definitely take this into consideration when picking a wallpaper. Will the colors make it look cramped? Will it be overpowering? The teachers that we have gotten feedback from so far have said that they want calming bright colors. Nothing too bright, but they want a bit of energy so that it doesn’t seem boring. This is one of the more practical suggestions that they had. The other was a magical grading monkey, but I really don’t think that we will be able to make that happen. Well, unless Santa brings one, but he’s been really unreliable these past few years!
My team and I are really enjoying this project. We have already learned a lot and had fun at the same time! Who would have thunk(haha) it! We even got to take a super amazing picture with our airstream trailer. Here is our second favorite picture. Next post will hold the all time winner of our team picture! What will it be?? Ah! the suspense! I hope it doesn’t kill you…
-Until next time, Swofford.
