The Next Chapter- Ally Reznicek with Bel Floratine Custom Designs

Hello, my fellow Streamers!  We are back with Bel Floratine Custom Designs, with a lot of news summing up 2013 and the beginning of 2014.

First of all, we have been busy!  All of the design teams have recently completed building an authentic, to-scale model of what they imagine the Whale should be like.  Every model was built with amenities requested by our clients, including a kitchen/dinette area, lounge area, device charging stations, etc.  This was not an easy task mostly due to the Whale’s fairly small dimensions; it was difficult to find a way to arrange all of the furniture in ways that wouldn’t make the room feel cramped.

We (design teams) realized everyone put an extraordinary amount of time an effort  into the building and planning tasks, so we created a type of decision matrix to help narrow down the models to five selections.  We created three new groups, each of which having no more than one person from each design team.  We then voted on a scale from one to five (one being lacking and five being perfect) based on each aspect of the model.  Some aspects that we took under consideration while voting were furnishings, robustness, energy efficiency, and cost efficiency. After we finished voting, we tallied up the points and found our top five designs.  Bel Floratine is proud to say that we made the top five list of Airstream models!

The next step was to let the clients (teachers) vote on which design they preferred, since they will be the ones who ultimately use the Whale.  The result was curious since the design team who constructed the winning model was not in the top five, but still won the hearts of our teachers.  Congratulations to Dream Designers, the winning design team of 2013-2014!

Well, what now?  Now comes the fun part.  Soon we will be able to physically turn the Whale into a teacher’s common area!  We will turn Dream Designers’ plan into a reality by following their guidelines piece by piece until we create a fully functional work/relaxation space.  I am personally very excited to learn how to use new power tools.  As of now, I only know how to work some basic tools like a drill and nail gun, but hopefully by the end of the school year I can be experienced in many of the most common construction tools.

Keep in mind that our design will be Eco-friendly and energy efficient.  We understand that doing so may not be as cost-efficient, but we realize that in the long run, the Whale may be able to pay for itself through the amount of energy it saves.  Solar panels will be used as our main, renewable resource and will power the majority of our appliances.  Dream Designers found energy efficient appliances that will help us achieve our “green” goal.  Some may think something as small as an Airstream cannot help the environment because we cannot literally give back resources like energy.  But we can avoid pollution by not taking anything from the earth to begin with. And if nothing is taken, then there can be nothing to put back, hence no pollution.
