Blurring the lines between Indoors and Outdoors!

7th period

For this project we will be presenting online. We have our information regarding types of plants we are putting in our garden, the materials and cost of our garden, and our biodiversity on our wiki.

Our feelings towards Garden Ventura are that it will be challenging and will make us really think. This project takes a lot of planning, specific measurements, and lots of research. This project will help us as a group in the real world because in the future, we will be expected to take care of our environment. This is our environment and how we take care of it is how it will turn out.

This project taught us ways to go green and help the environment. We also learned what biodiversity is and how essential it is to our garden and to the earth as a whole. Also, we learned how to compost and that it has a big impact on garden improvement and waste reduction.

In our opinion, the results of our garden will most likely be successful because we took a lot of time to focus on the essentials, placement of the plants and what the outcome of our garden will be when we make certain choices. The placement was very essential to our garden because of water needs and sun requirements; if we placed a plant with needs of full sun exposure in shade, our garden would fail. We wanted to make sure the plants were in the best placement to grow to its fullest to show off our beautiful creative garden. When creating our garden we hoped that it would be colorful and capture the true essence of nature and its environment. By focusing on the environment we have the ability to match our garden to the design of the trailer built by the tenth grade engineering students, which will hopefully compliment the trailer, give students and staff a beautiful garden,  and create good biodiversity for the habitat of our garden.

We think that this project is very interesting and brings our inner creativeness out. It makes us feel like we have some control over our project. In the real world, we have to learn about budgeting, logical placement and choices, and in the future, we might choose to have a garden.

For our garden, we are going for a more colorful/green look. We have added a section of vegetables and fruits on the side of the trailer, and in the front of the trailer, we have all of our grasses and flowers to be the center of attention. We chose our plants very carefully because we wanted each one to be very native to Texas and to attract beautiful and helpful insects. Also, our compost system is not complicated at all. We have a composting bin that spins with the help of a handle. We chose this particular composting bin because it is easier and more effective. When we spin the bin, the scraps will mix, giving us better compost to make extremely effective gentrified soil.

  1. You guys sound so professional! You guys explained how your garden was supposed to work, really well. And you really made sure, to give reasons and explanations!

  2. I agree with you guys. Through out this project, my classmates/group and I have gained more knowledge to what we already know about gardening and composting. Something I learned was that not all plants that are pretty can live in Texas due to the weather and more. You just can’t go around and picking all the plants that are pretty and plant them in random soil because you don’t know what type of soil they need to grow better and if they will survive. Also, this project took a lot of time and effort, but as always, our work will pay off!! I can’t wait to see others ideas and creations because everyone has a different taste when it comes to designing.

I really like how you include your thoughts and opinions. I also agree with you guys, people shouldn’t just pick the first pretty plant they see and plant it in some random soil, they need to know the needs of the plants. For example, how much water it will need, what type of soil it grows best in, etc.

  6. I liked how you gave your opinion on what you thought abut the project and also i liked how it was very well detailed and it was easy to understand but it was well detailed at the same time.
