Welcome Project Ventura Viewers! Maya here and it has been awhile. Hopefully everyone had a great spring break. If you were in the Austin area during the spring break than hopefully you got to enjoy South by Southwest and if you were here in Austin then you could have come see the Project Ventura presentation where our amazing teacher Ana Josephson was talking about our amazing work and potential on Project Ventura. A lot has happened since we last spoke; we finished up our Milestone two and then had a special engineering field trip with Pam Powell. At the trip we talked about our building designs and learn safety measures that we must take. This part of the field trip was really cool because it kind of gave me an idea of what it would be like to actually take a class at ACC. On this field we also got FOOD, and food makes everything better. However, the most important thing that we did on this trip was make tool boxes. The purpose of the trip was to learn about safety and using tools so we are more familiar with them when we are actually building furniture for the airstream. So shout out to Pam Powell for the amazing field trip and helping us out. After the field trip I feel that everyone had new eyes towards project.
Now, we are on milestone three and the first part of the milestone is in my opinion the best part. We are making interior design boards where we get to choose a theme, color scheme and an inspiration item that will lead the way to what the interior design of the airstream will be. From the beginning of this project I had been dreaming about what the interior should be. If you have read past blog post of mine you will see that I talked about certain colors and how they make people feel. At the beginning I was leaning towards the idea of a modern style. However, one thing that I did discover was that Sierra and I have very different. While I was thinking modern classy style, Sierra was set on happy colors as she calls it. She wanted bright orange, blue and yellow as the color scheme and then white walls. The idea was good because the different colors could used as accent, however I just didn’t see the colors playing out very in my head also I felt that it was too many bright colors against each other at once and could have been overwhelming. We argued for the majority of class trying to think of a color scheme that we both agreed and that the clients would love. We ended up agreeing on a grayish color, red, and light blue. Now I know what most people are think….THIS IS NOT AN AMERICAN THEME. Honestly, we weren’t thinking American when we thought of the colors it was very ironic. From that we got the idea to call our theme American Chic. Although we were completely satisfied with that theme because we thought that it would give off the impression that we were going for an all out American theme. However, we are more aiming towards a faded look. So, Sierra and I had a good chat with our buddy Gus and she gave us the idea that maybe with we going a vintage look and our colors reminded her of Hampton Bay in the 1960s. So from that we got the idea to call our theme vintage Long Island. Now, I haven’t discussed this change with Sierra but we are meeting on Sunday to finish our boards and then I will bring it up and hopefully she agrees.
So for my research this week I have decided to research vintage Long Island themes. When I looked up long island interior design I got the faded look sierra and I are going for. The thing about this design was that it contains a lot of browns, so I was thinking that we could use a brownish huge for the carpet we are using. The thing I love about this color scheme is that the blue and red can really act as accents so make the trailer stand out and give everyone a calming feeling because they are warm colors. I was also researching that paint may dry darker then what it may seem will on sample keep that in mind. I also looked in to color psychology and I read that the red which is pretty light makes people feel at peace and blue in general also makes people feel really at peace. Also the paint and carpet we are using are all eco-friendly. So I am super excited for this theme idea and hopefully Sierra likes it! So Long Island here we come! See you all next week.
