Hello fellow Project Ventura followers!! Maya Here! First off I just want to point out that we only have about 2 months of school left and Project Ventura is due May 19th so we are almost to the finish line with this project and I want to say THANK YOU for those who have followed the progress of Project Ventura over the past year. So anyway last time we talked we were working on theme boards for the trailer. Sierra and I’s was Long Island Vintage which consisted of light blues, reds, and browns that gave it a nice old look to it. The theme board that was chosen was the amazing Gus and Emma which was Hotel Morocco. I am super excited for this design because it’s fun, hip, and has the potential to look super awesome in the trailer. So this past week we have been building and we have gotten a lot done building most of the couch frame, the counter, and the bookshelf. Pam Powell, Mariah, and Matt have been helping us in the building process which is really helping us get it done faster. Also this past week I had the honor of giving tours to a group of women from Impact Austin because Ann Richards is in the running for a very important grant that would give our building a makerspace meaning that instead of being outside and building we can actually be in a professional work space which would allow us to get more work done.
So today it actually a perfect day for me to write this blog, because I worked on the trailer today. One requirement for this project is to contribute at least four hours to it outside of school which I complete today. My job was working in the airstream; I had to cover holes in the wall using this substance like plaster that filled the holes that allowed them to be painted over. Also we finished cleaning the walls in the airstream that were a very disgusting color of brown and the original colors of the wall are white. So after the plastering and cleaning we started the best part of decorating the trailer which is PAINTING. We are using mythic and chalk paint which are some of the most eco friendly paints around. We didn’t actually finish painting the entire trailer yet but we will definitely be done by this the end of this week.
Okay time for my favorite part of the blog, the research section. Today I want to talk out the electrical portion of the trailer. Right now we are focusing on the building but then we will finish up doing the electrical wiring. So in order to make the electrical part easier and more efficient Mrs. Jo has talked about using natural light as much as possible. So I did some research on the website Our Daily Green and it said that natural light is great and helps save energy. However the downside to natural light is that especially on very sunny days they can cause a glare when working on computers and things. So according to the website and research I have concluded the best way to solve this issue is to have blinds that control the amount the light coming in. We could also have curtains and the screen that we having been working on can also provide shade on very sunny days. I also research types of glasses because we may be using glass for our table tops now. So after researching according to Dulles Glass and Mirrors the glass we should use if we do have a glass table top is ½ in thickness for it is the strongest and can support large weights.
So that all for today everyone! Hopefully you learned something great today! So even though it seems that we have been going super slow on this project we have been going slow and steady and we are almost done with this amazing race and experience. Thanks for reading and see you soon.
