New Friends?

We are now looking at what is soon to be our new Green House. Hello fellow WordPress readers, Mariel is back! We have made so many improvements and progress that are so close to being completely done. Over the last couple days we had finished framing, placed the side walls onto the lands, as well as put the roof of the greenhouse on top.

This is the standing structure of our grennhouse as of today.

One day when going out to work on our greenhouse, Mrs. Warner, one of our clients,  had gone out to see our progress she had made a comment to us about how it was necessary to remove all the grass and weeds from inside the greenhouse to insure that no weeds nor the grass grew back and disturbed the growing of the other plants. Since then we have spent the rest of the week removing all the weeds, as well as making “new friends”.  Removing the weeds means making very deep hole in the ground, to get to the roots or the weeds and grass, and breaking the dirt apart and throwing out the weeds. But lemme just tell you, this is not an easy job! The dirt is very hard, there’s too many weeds, and there’s bugs! Recently, we have been digging and finding grubs. But today we have found another slimy creature that wiggles it’s way through dirt, worms. I’m not a fan of these slimy, crawling creatures, by the way. When we find a grub we as our fellow peer Cypress, to pick them up and throw them, as well as the worms, which is pretty funny because no one wants to touch them.

On the right, Cypress is holding a piece of dirt which contained worm. On the left, Cypress has a grub in her hand (something I would never do!!!)

I wanted to take and post this picture to show how long these roots were. Now you can imagine how difficult it must of been to pull these out!

There was so many weeds to be pulled out that we had little groups that worked at different corners trying to get all the weeds out. In this picture is, from left to right, Shilah, Britton, Chandler, and in the tiny corner, Lucia.

This is a picture of all the weeds that had pulled out. Along with all the dirt that felt like rocks.

Besides making new friends with grubs and worms we have also made great progress in putting all the pieces our greenhouse together. Once we finished framing the walls and the roof, which was loads of fun, we went out and drilled it all together. After we had done that we were able to slowly but surely place the roof on top and drill it together, which was a little scary because the wood was a little crooked and there were gaps. But that was no issue for Mrs.Jo and her awesome, magical drill. Since it is all now in place every time I walk out to get to work I get this exciting, happy feeling to see it all standing.

I’m happy to say that we have come this far and accomplished something great not only for our classmates but as well for our school. Although I am sad to know that soon all of this will come to an end, it was still something that I had fun doing and m proud of. I was able to create and put together something amazing with 9 other girls and a wonderful teacher who are just rockstars. You all will hear from us very soon!

Thanks for checking in!

Mariel
