A Plethora of Ideas – Kelsey A.

First off, I would like to introduce myself. I am Kelsey, I am tall, awkward, and in the engineering pathway. Second, I would like to mention that I am a very unphotogenic person meaning that I do not look nice in photos or take very good photos. Without further ado, I would like to now introduce you to what Esperanza and I have been doing for the cornerstone project.

This is the first time I have ever built something on a large scale, the only experience I have similar to what I am doing now, was building a birdhouse in eighth grade. I am very excited about this project; there is plethora of ideas in my head about what we could do. And there is a limited amount of time, money, and space in the courtyard; all of these constraints are very unfortunate. For example, we would like to have a water feature between the sidewalk and the side of the school, this would be a pond or fountain that would look pretty and function as a rainwater collection system too.

My overarching idea for the courtyard is to create a space where my friends and I would like to have lunch, and a place that will remain at ARS long after we are gone. My ultimate goal is to come back one day and be able to point at features in the courtyard and say I made that. To do this Esperanza and I needed a cohesive plan of the best courtyard ever. So, the ideas started flowing, an amphitheater, pergolas, refurbish the tiny trailer, pergolas, giant chess board, pergolas, water features, pergolas, a swimming pool, pergolas, picnic benches, pergolas, hammocks, and more pergolas.

As you might have noticed, we like pergolas, an amphitheater could be the start of an ARS movie night, I also would like to have a swimming pool given that I am on the swim team. Next, we like the airstream and the tiny trailer has a potential to be a mini airstream. Just like most people are unaware of the ARS swim team and the second trailer, we also happen to be the proud owners of giant chess board! One of the graduating seniors this year built it, unfortunately the giant chess board is gathering dust in a closet instead of being used. Finally, grass is itchy so people could sit at picnic benches and eat lunch or take a nap in a hammock, because we work really hard and deserve a break or nap.

I think that the design whatever you want phase of this project will be my favorite, mostly because; we do not have to do any math, or are constrained by budget or any other unfun requirements. I am very excited to have been able to share some of my ideas with all of our readers and just like you, I am looking forward to what we will do next!
